5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane (BND) is approved anti - microbial biocide/preservative in
IVD, Pharma and Cosmetic industries.

It is also known as Bronidox .

Bronidox L of Henkel/Cognis is 10% 5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane in propylenglycol.
Although generally considered as rather neutral diol, propylenglycol (1,2-Propandiol)
may however interfere with some IVD applications .

# BND - D is a high purity dry substance having ≥99.5% as per standard Gas
Chromatography QC analysis (by original manufacturer; # BND - D is the only product
we do not produce ourselves).

Based on our extensive longstanding experience BND is absolutely reliable anti -
microbial biocide ideal for preserving liquid IVD formulations including reagents
containing high protein, sugar and detergent concentrations that are particularly rich
substrates prone to microbial deterioration.

In recommended effective concentrations BND is unrestrictedly compatible with all
processes, buffers and reaction steps in ELISA, Blotting and related tests. It goes not
interfere in coating/adsorption, analyte capturing (from different specimens including
serum/plasma, urine, saliva, diluted excrements, etc.), detection and substrate
development(TMB, ECL).

BND is slowly soluble in water buffers. BND can be introduced at any stage of
preparing liquid buffer/formulation. With respect to given slower solubility, we
recommend adding BND in the very beginning, i.e. immediately to water, and then
proceed with other buffer/formulation components. Allow for mixing during at least 2
hours which is enough for complete dissolving ( ~20 °C ) of BND at highest recommended
concentration of 0,12% ( stabilized liquid protein concentrates, stable ready-to-use assay
component formulations ) .

We also offer 0,5% 5-Bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane in pure demineralized water> 18 µΩ,
0.2µ-filtered, #BND-W.

Although supplied as high purity organic substance, BND - D contains minor amounts of
low - disperse iron oxide ( maghemite ) particles that are not seen by GC but become
traceable when filtering water - based solutions through 0,2µ.

BND - W is free from trace maghemite contamination and actually comprises ultra - pure
BND - preserved water concentrate suggested as universal preservative base being
faster alternative in rapid preparing of diverse BND - preserved liquid buffer
formulations.

For preparing 10 Volumes preserved with e.g. 500 ppm ( 0,05 % ) BND arbitrary
buffer/formulation, where specific weights of dry buffer components are known/set as
per given SOP, take 1 Volume
#BND-W in 9 Volumes pure demineralised water, add by mixing
pre - weighted dry components, mix until dissolved, control and, if needed, adjust pH,
filter through 0.2µ.

We realize that reagent supplied in the given lower concentration ( necessitated merely
through restricted solubility of BND in water ) is not the best elegant option addressing
safety and convenience in buffer preparation . It might nevertheless be practicable in
selected applications where the highest purity of the buffer/formulation and shorter
process time is strongly desirable .

#BND-W is stable over two years at ambient room temperature. Do not store this
product at + 4 °C or otherwise at temperatures below 18 °C. Longer exposition below 18 °C
may result in precipitation of
